Match Report V Lucan Utd.
Without the availability of Daniel, Fionn or Hughie, an encounter with the unbeaten Lucan was going to require the boys to be firing on all cylinders.
The freezing chill which was in the air from a very cold morning soon evaporated with a heated battle between both teams. There was a level of excellence across both teams that you’d fine hard to see in the premiership with timed passing and wonderful skill across the park.
Lucan were first to hit the back of the net with some nice passing which led to the first goal to the cheer of the large away Lucan Supporters, this was quickly followed by a second which gave the away team a great advantage.
Our guys were reluctant to give up Josh pulling off some fine saves and Jack and Ciaran not letting anything go in defense without some fine tackles and tracking back, Ultan, Conor and Neil working great together in the midfield putting in place some timely worked training practices trying to feed Cory up front and then finally our great play paid off. Neil Broke through from Midfield and with a fine run and with strength and composure and with the speed of a freight train buried the ball in the back of the net. We had a game on our hands.
Lucan responded quickly before half time with another which left us trailing by two at half time.
With a quick drink and team talk and with a few changes with Ben and his new boots coming on and taking position upfront, Cory slipping into Midfield and with Jack switching with Josh in Net, the scene was set for a cracking second half.
Once again Ultan and Neil working together released a cracking ball to Ben upfront who took the ball and with the magic of his new boots put the ball in the back of the net with an excellent finish, the roar from the Vale supporters was deafening. With Very tight defending and great control in the middle, the boys were on fire. Straight in again from the tip off and the boys were blazing, tracking and fighting for every loose ball and with a great pass from Ciaran from defense into Cory who saw a gap and let loose with a cracking shot into the bottom of the net all was even.
Then out of the blue Lucan, with a great bit of luck from a corner and were able to dribble the ball over the line to make it 4-3. Lucan started passing wide again and quickly saw a gap to make it 5-3 and followed quickly by another.
The visitors thought they had it wrapped up when a super kick out from Jack into space gave the midfield trio of Ultan, Neil and Cory to string some great passing together where Cory blasted into the top corner of the net. With the clock against Vale time was running out, and with all the boys giving 100% we were in again when Ciaran broke through and with some great skill blasted the ball past the Keeper to make it 6-5, what a response from the crowd geting a wonderful display of football. Unfortunately then the ref blew and it was all over.
It was a fantastic game of football from all of the Boys with everyone working together to show the talent of the team with a super performance.
Well done boys.
Special Thanks to all the wonderful supporters and to Ailish for the Biscuits and coffee..
