As Chairman of Valeview Shankill SBFC last Sunday was the most important day in my diary for the 2008 / 2009 season.
Sunday was our annual presentation ceremony of Player of the Year and Most Improved Player for the Panthers and Under 7 to under 10. In addition each player received a medal in recognition of their contribution to the club throughout the season. The presentations coordinated by Club Secretary Tim Cullinane were made by Bray Wanderers Players Stephen Brennan (former Valeview player), John Flood and Darren Forsyth.
The event held in St Anne's School represented an opportunity to celebrate some of the successes of the club both on and off the field.
The continuing growth of the Panthers has been a key development for the club over the last two years and on Sunday I had the opportunity to welcome the newest players into the Valeview Shankill family on what was a great day for them having earlier that day played their first ever matches in the Green and White.
For the first time in the clubs history we won three trophies in a season. One of our under 8 teams won their league and one of our under 9 teams won the double of league and Futsal. These were fantastic achievements and to cap it off on Sunday morning our other under 8 team qualified for a playoff for second place in their league.
At under 10 both our teams were still on a high from their great trip to Germany where not only did they represent the club with pride but they so impressed their hosts that they were asked to escort two local teams in the German League on to the pitch in front of a packed stadium.
I also took the opportunity to publically thank all our Managers who work to tirelessly for their teams and to ask more parents to step forward to help with the growing number of players in the Panthers. I was delighted to hear that there was a positive response to this appeal after the event.
Finally I wanted to particularly thank Commscope and Henkel for their sponsorship during the year.
