The Under 8B1team played out a very entertaining 2-1 win at Shanganagh Park against Rangers AFC.

Rangers were the visitors to shanganagh park today. We started brightly with some great interchanges from the midfield, rangers played some great football but the lads were slowly edging the early exchanges, ciaran was solid in goal and with Ruaidhri and Luke excellent at the back the lads gave nothing away. Ultan Adam and Hugh were dominating the midfield and Corey was a tireless runner upfront as always. After 10 minutes we made two changes bringing on Sean and Neil. Sean combined well with Adam on the left to put Corey in who finished superbly. 1:0 to  Shankill. Rangers came out in the second half and started brightly and drew level with a great run and strike from their right winger. The lads rallied and after some fine work by Sean on the left he delivered a great cross which just evaded Corey, but Neil was on hand and with a flash of the new  orange boots he made it 2:1. We were in for the nervous  few minutes as rangers went in search of an equaliser. Right at the death they broke away but man of the match Luke  wasn't letting this go and he chased back all the way and made a wonderful last ditch tackle to keep it at 2:1. What a performance from the team today they were all brilliant. This was a great match to watch if a bit nervy  for the coaches. Well done all. Derek

The Under 8E team overcame Broadford Rovers in a fantastic 4-3 win at Broadford Park.

Having won 2 matches & lost 2 We were doing ok &
then we came up against Broadford Fc the unbeaten champions last Sunday
on a lovely sunny morning in Ballinteer.Broadford started off well &
took an early lead, our lads kept battling & then Jack Cummins made some
fine saves that Shay Given would be proud of but then a bad rebound
trickled into the net for 2 nil just on the stroke of half time.
The half time pep talk seemed to go well!! The lads came out for the
second half with all guns blazing! Daniel & Sean controlled the midfield
well & then Jack Brennan scored a beauty for  2 1,then Sean took a
corner & the ball nestled into the top corner,Broadford were
stunned!.Ben Niall & Kevin done super at the back & Danny Bourke was
like a terrier!.Tadhg had the ball & passed  to Sean & got it back to
take the lead,we were as high as kites & just with 5 mins to go Adam got
on the ball & slipped it passed the keeper to make it 4 3.Were on a roll
now theres no stoppin us!!

The Under 12 Div 1 Team travelled to Cabinteely Park to take on Park Celtic and the home team came out on top winning 4-0.

After the high of last weekends result, the boys secumed to a 4-0 defeat to a park celtic side they could have beaten. Shankill hit the post twice, hit 6 shots that found the keeper in the right place and missed two sitters from 5 yards but thats the other side of football we all have to get used to, sometimes luck just does not go your way. on another day Shankill could have won this game. only two games left guys against Granada home and away, so heads up and lets finish the season on a high. The Under 12 Div team ran out 4-3 winners against Ardmore Rovers at Ballywaltrim. Ardmore had won all their games this season and had only lost one game in the last two years
.
They had come to Shankill a fortnight ago and beat us 3-0. The team worked hard at training this week and were up for this game come Sunday. Kevin, James, Mark, Connor, Jack and Hubbie worked on a new formation that we had hoped would break the opposition down. Reliable defenders Joe and Andy were supported by Tiernan as Brendan continues to rotate his squad to give all his players a feel for all positions. All Three gelled and were outstanding. Stuart started as our lone striker and took 2 defenders with him on his run to leave a gaping hole for Kevin to run into and score our first. David and Fionn were introduced after 20 minutes and a foul outside the box gave James a chance at goal which he converted.
In the second half JJ was introduced in goal and made some fantastic saves to keep us in the lead, but was unable to to hold a hot shot that dribbled into the goal after his initial save. Like the team that we are we hit back, then they got another, Paul was now on the pitch and scored a beauty in off the post, It was now 4-3 with 15 minutes left, on came Beppi who played a great ball into Jani who came close. After 6 minutes of injury time the still celebrating Munster ref blew up and this team had taken the scalp of the division winners.
Well done to all.(Bren)

The Under 7B1 team travelled to Meadowbrook to take on Dundrum F.C.

U7B1 ,On a dull morning we headed of to Dundrum to play a really strong team. Both teams agreed to play 8 a side, Kai,Leslin,Eoghan and David started in the mid-field with Adam up front,Cian was in net with Lorcan and Callum just in front of him defending,Cillian and Jake started on the bench. Every player played a huge part in this great win.Eoghan got the first goal with a great shot  after a fine move from open play,1 nil Shankill.Cian had few shots to deal with in the first half, with 1 fine save in particular.1-0 half time. Lorcan got in net for the 2nd half , Cillian and Jake were now on battling hard for the team. Dundrum started well 2nd half and got a fine equaliser with a fine shot, 1-1. The Shankill lads didn't let this bother them and if anything they got better as the half went on, so it was well deserved when they got goal number 2 from a fierce shot by David that thier keeper couldn't hold,2-1. Dundrum threw everything at  the  lads for the last 10 minutes, but Shankill defended brilliantly and could have got another but for some fine defending by Dundrum. Final score 2-1 Shankill. Well done lads, this is by far the best team in our league and our first victory over them was well deserved.(Barry)

The Under 7D Travelled to Leopardstown to take on Lakelands F.C. and came away 4-2 winners.

The Under 8B1 Team continued their fine recent goal scoring run with an 8-1win over Lucan United.

Shankill u8b1 make it three wins on the bounce, the league leaders Lucan were the visitors today. Shankill got off to a bright start but conceded an early goal to go one down, the lads rallied quickly and pulled one back almost immediatly a fine strike from Corey who went on to score a fabulous hat trick including a cool finish up from the penalty spot late on. Adam was immense in midfield today and capped a man of the match performance with a superb long range strike. Neil made sure we kept the lead going into half time with a great high save from a long range strike, he was up quick to claim the ball from the rebound. Ultan played well on the wing and scored two lovely goals. Ruaidhri had a fine game up front in the first half and kept a clean sheet  in goal in the second half. Sean was outstanding again chipping in with two well taken goals himself. Lets not forget our defenders Luke cool and collected on the ball as usual ciaran was outstanding again and hughie was as solid as a rock at the back. A fine all round team performance. Well done lads. (Derek)

The Under 8E Team were beaten 3-0 at home to Lakelands.

The Under 8F team went away to Mill lane to face Palmerstown Rangers and pulled off a comeback Istanbul Style.

With just 7 players available & 3-0 down at half time the boys dug deep & gave a heroic second half performance to beat Palmerstown Rangers by 5 goals to 3!  Great goals from Jack x 2, Fionn x 2 & Josh x 1 and great play from Daniel, Phillip, Tom and Paul. A big thanks to Paul for stepping in & helping Tony wth the team this weekend.(Peter)

The Under 9B team suffered their heaviest defeat of the Season in their final game going down 7-0 away to Clontarf F.C. It was a fantastic season for Shay, Paul and the team and it looks like they will finish in 3rd place in a very strong league. It was the first year at 9-aside for the team who had some new players that started with them at the start of the season and it didnt take them too long to gel. Well Done Guys!!!

The Under 10B Team travelled to Lucan with only 10 Players as Conor & Vishva were ill with the flu and Ben had an accident the day before the game and broke his elbow. When the two teams met in October at Shanganagh Park the away team came out 4-1 winners. The game started very brightly for Shankill and we had Lucan on the back foot from the start. The lads moved the ball around nicely and looked very comfortable. After catching a Lucan player in pocession Mark went on a fantastic run down the right wing and after taken n two more players let fly with a super shot that ended up in the back of the net 1-0 Shankill. Shortly after the goal the ref gave a penalty to Lucan after harshly judging Mark had handled the ball, Nathan looked very confident and stred the Lucan player down to see the spot kick go wide. The rest of the first half was very evenly balanced with both sides looking strong on the break. After the break as we expected Lucan came more into the game with their Number 7 looking the most likely to score however Mark, Deano and Tom were immense at the back and whenever Lucan got through Nathan was their toclean up. In Midfield Cian, Kevin and Nathan C were all in excellant form. Davy and Ryan are enjoying a good partnership up front and when Eoin replaced Ryan upfront Davy and Eoin combined really well and worked well together. A clash of heads between Dean & Mark looked a bit worrying but both players were ok. With the clock ticking down Some nice work out of Shankills defence seen Davey & Nathan C running towards the Lucan goal and after a good call from Nathan Davy left the ball to him and Nathan scored a sweet chip to make it 2-0 and 3 out of the last 3 games for Nathan. Man of the Match performance from Mark who was super today gave Shankill the points.

The Under 10B1 team travelled to Raheny and were beaten 6-1 by Raheny United.

The Under 11 Div 2 Team got back to winning ways with a 2-0 win against Beech Park at Shanganagh Park.

The Under 16 Div 1 Team kicked off at 11.30 in Shanganagh Park kitted out in their new Kits and went on to beat Beechwood 6-0.

The Under 10B Team travelled to Mountview Park to take on Mountview Boys. When the two teams met at Shanganagh Park Mountview came away with the points winning 2-1 in a very close game. In this game Mountview came at Shankill very strong from the start with Nathan M pulling off 2 amazing saves in the first 30 seconds of the game. Mountview took the lead when a nice ball into the box bounced over everyone and ended up in the back of the Shankill net.
Shankill started to settle down after this and equalised after some lovely play   finishing with Davy passing to Ryan (who was starting only his second game for Shankill)who returned the ball to Davy with a lot of pressure from the Mountview keeper and one of their defenders Davy kept his composure to make it 1-1 at the break.
Mountview started the second half strongly and took a 2-1 early second half lead. Shankill again started to put on pressure and Nathan C made it 2 goals in 2 games with a fine finish to make it 2-2. With Shankill now playing better football they made it 3-2 with a fine goal from Kevin before Davy got Shankill's fourth to make it 4-2. Mountview made it a nervy last few minutes bringing the score back to 4-3 and with almost the last kick of the game Kevin hit the post and some lovely individual play and a fine shot. All in all a very impressive performance from the Under 10B Team.

The Under 10B1 team travelled to Hermitage Park and were beaten 1-0 in a very close game against Esker Celtic.

The Under 7B1 Team travelled to Tallaght Stadium to take on Shamrock Rovers. Was there divided loyalties for Manager Barry who is an avid Rovers fan? not a bit of it. Barry was right behind Shankill after they went behind to turn the game around and see his team win 3-1 against the club he supports. The Under 7D Team travelled to Mill Lane and were beaten 5-2 against Palmerstown Rangers.

The Under 8B1 team came out 8-1 winners at home to Cabinteely in the 10.30 kickoff at Shanganagh Park Pitch 1. On a fine sunny Sunday morning shankill put on a masterclass of free flowing football. Straight from the kickoff we could see the lads were up for this one. Neil with his new shiny orange boots was particularly keen to impress, and rounded off a fine performance with a stunning hat trick. Not to be outdone Sean hit four and ultan rounded of the scoring with a fine individual strike. Our defenders ciaran and Luke deserve great credit  they were both excellent today. Adam dominated in midfield and showed great awareness with some fine passing to set up many of the goals. Corey played in goal in the first half and led the line upfront in the second half  his tireless running and effort was brilliant. And lets not forget Ruaidhri in goals who was superb, and put in a fine performance under the watchful eye of his goalie coach darren.Derek.

The Under 8B1 team got their first win of the new campaign as they ran out 6-1 winners against Esker Celtic at Shanganagh Park. A solid performance from the lads today against a very good Esker Celtic side.
The game started with little to chose between the sides. Shankill were solid in defence with Ciaran and Luke both in fine form, and Ultan in goal was determined not to concede Cory came of the bench and made an immediate impact setting up Hugh who turned and hit a fine shot to give us the lead.
Sean and Cory added one each before Hugh got his second. 4:0 at half time.
Ruaidhri went in goal for the second half and showed off the new skill he is learning in goalie training. Neil and Adam dominated in midfield in the second half with Ultan and Sean both  contributing with some fine wing play. Cory scored to make it 5. Esker rallied and pulled one back. But the lads weren't going to let this one slip. And Adam scored from long range to make 6:1 and cap of a fine man of the match performance. All in all a great all round team performance.Derek

The Under 8E team also got their first win of the new Campaign with a 5-4 win in a thrilling game at Shanganagh Park pitch 4 against Celbridge Town.

The Under 7D team travelled to Goldenbridge and played out a 2-2 draw against St. Patricks Athletic.

The Under 10B team drew league leaders Home Farm in the Brendan Coyne Cup at Shanganagh Park. After giving away 2 soft goals early in the game Shankill fought their way back into the game with a fine Nathan C goal that he scored after Deans free kick had hit the bar and (man of the match) Nathan was first to respond heading into the Home Farm goal. Davy took a beautiful shot through a packed Home Farm goal mouth hitting the back of the net to make it 2-2. Home Farm made it 3-2 before the break and in the second half it was all Shankill with Home Farm still strong on the break and Nathan M pulling off a couple of fine saves. With 2 minutes to go after a lot of Shankill pressure Home Farm broke and made it 4-2. This was a much improved performance after the 8-1 defeat to Cabinteely the week before. The Under 10B1 Team were awarded a walkover in the Lee Kavanagh Cup as Willows F.C. failed to field a team.

The Under 14 Div 1 Team made it 3 wins out of 3 as they ran out 5-2 winners at VEC Terenure against Rathgar.

The game started brightly with nothing to pick between the two sides, as the half wore on tough Stella took control and went two up before we broke away and with some fabulous wing play from Sean and a great cross from Adam one of the defenders put the ball into his own net to make it 2:1.
Stella were still in control of the game and a wonderful long range strike from their midfield gave Ruadhri in goal no chance, 3:1 at half time.
If The first half belonged to Stella the second half was all Shankill, Hughie took a turn in goal and Ruadhri, Ciaran, and Luke shored up the defense, Sean, Adam, Ultan and Neil dominated in midfield with Cory playing the lone striker role to perfection. Despite all our best efforts and some great long range strikes from Ruaidhri and then from Ciaran we just could not get back on level terms.Neil capped a fine and well deserved man of the match performance with a fine strike to make it 3:2 the cross coming from some fine wing play from Sean and ultan. however it was to little to late.(Thanks Derek)

After such a long & frustrating wait to play a competitive game (we hadn't played a game since november) the team finally found themselves up against a much improved Palmerstown Rangers, who came to Shanganagh park full of enthusiasm & ready to rock !
Our guys from 1 to 9 ( Jude was in the sick bay & Tom away on international duty ) were ready to roll & after our captain for the game Conor Round scored an excellent opener we never stopped moving & passing the ball around the pitch.
We went on to win 5 - 2 with another goal from Conor, & 1 each from Jack, Fionn & Ben...
Picking a man of the match is not possible as Daniel , Josh , Conor Mac ,Philip , Paul & the goalscorers all played an excellent match & all their hard work in training is evident on the pitch. Well done U8F ! (Peter)

After being beaten 6 - 0 at home against Finglas Celtic on the opening day of the season the Under 10B team travelled to the Finglas with a bit of apprehension. The game started very brightly with Shankill dominating the early exchanges with some nice passing, the opening goal fell to Shankill as Davy put a lovely through ball to Dean who hit a cracking shot only to see the Finglas keeper pull off a beautiful save, with the keeper unable to hold the ball Davy followed up and cooly slotted the ball into the back of the net.
With the game at 1-0 at half time Finglas came more into the game in the second half with Nathan pulling of some wonderful saves. On the counter attack Eoin broke free and put the ball intothe back of the net from a tight angle giving Shankill a 2-0 lead.
With about 3 minutes left Finglas Celtic scored a wonderfull individual goal when Carlo took the ball in his own half and beat 3 Shankill players before picking his spot and putting a beautiful ball into the back of the net. Almost straight from the restart Finglas were awarded a free kick just inside the Shankill half and scored a great goal.
The game ended 2-2 and all though the lads were disappointed losing a 2 goal lead it was a fine performance from every player.

Shay and Paul's team kicked off first and opened the scoring with a fine goal from Kevin Byrne. Danny Geoghegan got the second with his first goal for the club much to disappointment of his father who missed the game (the first game he has ever missed) Shay and Paul are thinking of banning him from future games :)

Eamonn and Jimmys Under 10B1 team followed the Under 9's and continued their fine away form with Lee netting both goals in a very entertaining game.

The weather took it's toll on the fixtures again with only 3 games going ahead this week-end.

The Under 16 Div 1 team played out a 2 - 2 draw away from home at Alexandra college against Beechwood.

The Under 8E team travelled to Beneavin college and went down 3 - 1 against Willows F.C.

The Under 11 Div 1 team travelled to Griffen Valley to take on Ballyowen match report below. (thanks Liam)

The guys put in a solid performance against a well organised Ballyowen Celtic side in Griffeen Valley Park.

Chances were at a premium in the first half as Shankill struggled to create chances in the final third against a pitch which was slanted much in the home teams favour. However solid defending and good linkup play from the midfield ensured the ball was in the opposition half for the majority of the first half. The forwards worked hard and tested the defence which had a knack of having 10 men behind the ball while not in possession.

The Teams switched ends for the beginning of the second half and it was not long before Shankill seized control of the game. With the team's superior ball control and passing game Ballyowen were soon on the ropes.

Some marginal offside calls signalled the alarm bells for the home team as Daniel O'Neill put the ball in the net only to be flagged off. There was no doubt, however, when Chloe Rigley rounded off a fine team attack with a well deserved goal, her second of the season.

Ballyowen, to their credit, made a tough game of it and with 10 minutes to go burst through on goal. What looked like a certain goal was thwarted by excellent brave goalkeeping by Sean Larkin who came off his line and stayed big against Ballyowen's player of the match, the number six. With that scare out of the way Shankill remained calm and closed out the match for a well deserved 3 points.

Under 12 Div 1(6-3)
This was a managers worst fears come through as 5 of the team were at a sleepover the night before. It is not a good sign when 3 of your players arrive with full green makeup on their faces and yawning as the ball is tipped off. Shankill were 4- nil down after 20 minutes and looked like they were going to loose by a criket score.

A strong individual performance by Conor and Kevin motivated the team into some resistance, followed by great defending by Andy Joe and Jani gave the team a much needed lift.

Brave fight back started and Tiernan and Fionn combined well for our first goal. We were 5-1 down with most of the second half still to play, and pulled two more back, the latter scored by Blaitin, a great shot from just inside the box. The rest of the game was owned by us, with everyone pushing up we conceded late, but a brave fight back showed the true spirit of this team, as we won the second half and really put it up to this big strong talented Lakelands side, who will be in the running come the end of the season. We are still top of the league and can only get better.

As for sleepovers !!! kids should have their fun.(Bren)

With the weather taking its toll on the weekends fixtures only four games went ahead at the weekend.

The Under 7C team who were due to play at home against Lakelands moved their game to St. John of Gods to play away from home as Shanganagh Park was closed. The game ended in a 0-0 draw with Shankill finishing second in a very strong league. After their 10 pre xmas games the Under 7C team ended up with 6 wins 3 defeats and 1 draw. Well Done Guys !!!

Both of the Under 12 games went ahead with the Div 1 team coming out 3-2 winners away to Park Vale and the Div 2 team going down 4-7 away to Blessington.

The game of the day was the Under 9B teams 3-0 win away to Home Farm.

The Shankill FC U9's continued their superb run of form with a super battling performance yesterday away to Home Farm FC. The first half saw a very tight game with some outstanding defending by Louie and Adam, not giving Home Farm an inch. Sean M was as busy as ever in midfield always looking to open up to opposition. Danny was busy upfront chasing every ball and Nicky was as composed as ever in goal. The nerves of the Shankill mums and dads were somewhat eased with a super shot by Kev looping over the Home Farm Keeper and into the back of the net.

The second half started much the same as the first with neither side giving an inch, but Shankill were starting to make some breaks, which saw Sean C with a couple of efforts on goal and Jack and Rory making some great runs forward. Ben was always looking to make space from himself and Dylan and Sean M were combining brilliantly in the middle of the park. Shankill’s patience and passing game finally paid off with a great goal from Dylan, not content with one he followed this up shortly after, with an amazing long range shot which flew into the top corner-game over and the travelling supporters headed home with another 3 points in the bag, cold feet but plenty to smile about!!!
(Thanks Shay)
